Missing Uyi

Written for my very own Sunshine. This is fiction. It did not happen.................... Yet! 😊😊😊😊😊

She had promised she would not cry. Why would a grown woman be crying 'erniehow' because her husband would be gone for a fortnight? But, while it was just two weeks, it would be the first time they were spending a night apart since their wedding 3 months ago. She walked into their living room, and like magnet, her eyes were drawn to their wedding pictures. Theirs was a simple wedding with just one twist- they said their vows at dusk, just when the sun was setting, as if smiling down at them.
     She smiled.
     Her handsome, thoughtful husband.
Her mind drifted back to how they met those 2.5 years ago.
It was the start of her National Service, posted to a state she had never been to, no hope for a place to stay. A member of her platoon had taken the time to get her a flyer for a house for corps members and they were to gather the sunday before they left camp. The lodge had sent 2 representatives to come, get their data and educate them on the rules of the house.... And one of them just had to be the most captivating male to ever walk upon this earth. She willed herself to not stare. But then, he starts addressing them (the small group of people interested in the accommodation) and she had the perfect excuse to drink him in. Tall, 5"10 or 5"11 (5"11 as she later got to know) light complexioned, just a tad darker than margerine, hair not so neatly trimmed, (his signature) and eyes that were the colour of chocolate. Hmm. That may have been the reason she was staring like she was a chocolate addict and he, a chocolate shop, which promised all the treats she could ever want.
As an opening, he smiled. And that smile seemed to brighten the place up. 'Sunshine' she thought, before he ever introduced himself.
Months later, she got into an accident, her life was hanging in a balance, she needed blood transfusion immediately. While others were still weighing the pros and cons of blood donation, Uyi volunteers. The next morning, she is informed that she has 'papa's' blood in her veins. She could not breathe. The nurse came in and said "that young man must love you alot o, no hesitation, you should really thank him, he practically saved your life"
And then, she thought, "what better thanks than sharing the life he saved with him, since he saved the life, let me kukuma just share it with him".
    She smiled.
With this determination, she set about chasing this man with all she's worth. Poor Uyi didn't stand a chance. Once he had asked her, why me?
She had replied, with her usual sass, "You are my Sunshine, without you life is grey, unappealing, without colour" and he had smiled that special smile that lights her up from within.
Kathleen smiled a bitter sweet smile, now. The next two weeks were going to be grey indeed, without her Sunshine.

  1. Kayomavoro... I've missed your troublesome/amazing self so much... This write up brought back a lot of memories and smiles to my face... I sat in my office reading this and asking myself what I had done to Kayo to merit such a piece which has totally left me flabbergasted... I thank God for your life because you're a great blessing and an amazing friend behind that "rebellious" image you put out there... And for "my" blood in your veins, that is Gods way of shaming the devil because he didn't succeed...
