What happened to forever?

Isabella couldn't believe the reality before her eyes. How long was forever, really?
   "I love you forever and a day more" he had said and she had believed him whole heartedly, believed every word. Forever had turned out to be a very short time indeed. He had seemed so sincere as he uttered those words and there went her trust. She had trusted him with her life, loved him from the depth of her soul. Why would he promise to be here forever and just up and leave? Did the promises shared mean nothing to him? Did he not care the situation he was leaving her in? How did he ever expect her to cope? He was her life, her pillar, her therapist and more importantly, her rock. And now? She's been left adrift at sea with no land in sight? Where does she start from?
    Broken didn't begin to capture the state of her heart right now. She had really believed him when he said he would be with her forever. So forever was just 23 years, 9 months and 17 days? Cos that's how old she was 2 days ago when her father left her. How did he expect her to live now? She had lost her mother at the tender age of 4 days from labour complications, and she had only known her father. He had been her everything and now, cancer has snatched him. She wanted to be angry with the disease but cancer hadn't promised to love her and be with her forever, her dad did. He should have fought and survived. It galled to know she was now an orphan and truly alone.
    The tears flowed freely, not rolling off her cheeks, no, these were sad, heartfelt tears. They rolled down her cheeks, converged on her chin, before falling to the ground.
    "What happened to forever, Daddy? You promised me forever. Why did you leave me?" She thought as a new batch of tears began.

Tracy felt the hairs on the nape of her neck stand on end. She couldn't shake off the feeling that she was being watched as she came back from work this evening. She looked around, and finding no one paying ant particular attention to her, resumed walking. Still the feeling lingered. She quickly took a turn bent around a corner and looked around. Sure enough, there was a figure, apparently male, walking towards her. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a face cap. From the distance, it looked like he was wearing a jacket too . "What a weird combination", she thought, then felt the cold finger of fear trace her spine. This is Nigeria, in the evening, but Nigeria nonetheless.
